It is with sadness that I have to inform you of the death on the 21st February 2025 of Mrs Doreen HIBBERT, 94 years, the widow of PC 529 Keith Hibbert who passed away in 2003.  Doreen’s next of kin is her son, Mr Michael Hibbert. She was a widow member of NARPO.

Her funeral has been arranged for 10.30am on Tuesday 18th March 2025 at Trent Valley crematorium, Aston on Trent, Derby.​

​It is with sadness that I have to inform you of the death in Hospital after a short illness on Saturday 1st February 2025 of ex PC 985 Frank CLARKE, 82 years.  His next of kin is his wife, Mrs Edith Clarke.

Frank served on Traffic including the motor cycle section and was the Inkersall Beat Officer.  He then worked in the Cell Block at Chesterfield Police Station before retiring on ill health in 1994.  He was a keen golfer and played for the Force team.

His funeral has been arranged for 12.50pm on Wednesday 19th February 2025 at Chesterfield Crematorium, Brimington Road, Chesterfield S43 1AU.

​It is with sadness that I have to inform you of the death, peacefully, on Saturday 18th January 2025 of retired Sergeant 86 Michael HARDWICK, 83 years. Mick had been suffering with Alzheimer’s disease for a couple of years and had resided at Kilburn Care Home since his health declined towards  the end of last year. His next of kin is his wife, Maureen Hardwick, and he leaves 2 sons, Darren and Stephen.

Mick, a former Royal Marine joined the Derbyshire Constabulary in 1969, starting his Police career in Chesterfield. He went on to serve on Road Traffic at Matlock and on promotion worked at Ripley.  In 1976 Mick was transferred to the Driving School as an Instructor where he became a legendary figure in that department, with very high standards. He retired in 1996. 

Following his retirement he worked as the chauffeur for the Bishop of Derby, was the Treasurer of the Derby Branch of the Royal Marine Association and was an active member of NARPO.

His funeral will be held at 3.00pm on Monday 17th February 2025 at Amber Valley Memorial Park and Crematorium, Derby Road, Swanwick DE55 1BH. Afterwards a reception will be held  at the Village Inn, Marehay. All are welcome

It is with sadness that I have to inform you of the death on the 11th December 2024 of ex Sgt 82 Alan Gordon CAMPBELL, 95 years, peacefully at home.  Alan’s next of kin is his son, Mr Jim Campbell.

Alan served at Derby, Somercotes, Whaley Bridge, New Mills CID and Derby, where he retired as Sergeant in about 1985.  He then worked as a Manager of Joseph Paints, Derby.

It is with sadness that I have to inform you of the death of ex C/Supt 833 Trevor Arthur KITCHENER, 91 years, in Hospital after a short stay, on Thursday 21st November 2024. His next of kin is his wife, Mrs Joan Kitchener.

Trevor was suffering from Myeloma but his death was unexpected and he had arranged with John Hickman to watch a football match on the ward TV.

Trevor joined the Derby Borough Police as PC 177.  Under amalgamation his collar number was changed to 833.  He served in Derby, Matlock and finally as Divisional Commander at Alfreton with John Hickman as second in command.  Trevor retired in 1989 and then worked with Bowmer and Kirkland, Heage in Security.

Trevor's funeral has been arranged for 10.30am on Friday 20th December 2024 at St. Pauls Church, Church Road, Quarndon, Derby DE22 2PE, and afterwards at the Farmhouse at Mackwworth,  Ashbourne Road, Derby DE22 4LY.

It is with sadness that I have to inform you of the death of ex Supt 642 Cyril John HICKMAN, 91years, in Hospital after a short stay, on Sunday 17th November 2024.  His next of kin is his wife, Mrs Jean Hickman.

John as he was known was suffering from a terminal cancer but his death was unexpected,

John served at Chesterfield, Buxton, Derby and lastly as Superintendent at Alfreton.  He retired in about 1988.  He was a member of the International Police Association and travelled on the continent frequently with them.   He was also a member of NARPO and attended many functions.  Ironically he was a good friend of ex C/Supt Trevor Kitchener and they were recently in Hospital and passed away with 4 days of each other.

John's funeral has been arranged for 12.30pm on Thursday 12th December 2024 at Markeaton Crematorium and afterwards at the Grange, 457 Burton Road, Littleover, DE23 6FN.

​It is with sadness that I have to inform you of the death on Thursday 7th November 2024 of ex Deputy Chief Constable Fred Theodore CHAMBERS OBE  QPM, 92 years.  His next of kin is his wife, Mrs Yvonne Chambers.

Fred joined Warwickshire Police before transferring to Leicestershire on promotion.  In 1969 he transferred on promotion to Derbyshire, where he was stationed at Buxton as Chief Superintendent.  In 1976 he transferred to Northumbria Police as Assistant Chief Constable and later as Deputy Chief Constable until his retirement.  

Fred is the Father of Mrs Dawn Gray whose husband is ex C/Insp Robin Gray.

His funeral has been arranged for 12.30pm on Friday 29th November 2024 at Northumberland Woodland Burials & Crematorium Bockenfield Wood, Felton, Morpeth Northumberland NE65 9QJ.

It is with sadness that I have to inform you of the sudden death on Friday 18th October 2024 of ex Sgt 511 David Edward COLLYER-BACON, 78 years, at Wetherby Services whilst travelling home from holiday.

David’s next of kin is his wife, Shirley Collyer-Bacon.

David joined Derbyshire in 1965 and served at Ilkeston, Willington, Alfreton and Belper and also Road Traffic.  He was an instructor in Cadet and Regular Officer Training at Headquarters where he was promoted Sergeant.  He retired in 1995 and for the next ten years he was employed as a consultant Trainer for 3 or 4 courses a year.  

David suffered with Pulmonary Fibrosis but it never stopped him living his life, enjoying holidays, NARPO trips and meals.

David was a well loved and respected Officer who will be missed.

David's funeral has been arranged for 1.00pm on Tuesday 3rd December 2024 at St. Andrew’s Church, The Green, Swanwick DE55 1BL followed by cremation at 2.00pm (approx.) at Amber Valley Memorial Park and Crematorium, Derby Road, Swanwick DE55 1BH.  Afterwards at the Dog at Pentrich, Ripley DE5 3RE. 

Mrs Shirley Collyer-Bacon wishes to express her heartfelt gratitude to all those who attended David’s funeral, which brought great comfort to her and her family.  Shirley apologises that she was unable to speak personally to all that attended but truly appreciated everyone’s support, kind words and shared memories.​

​It is with sadness that I have to inform you of the death on the 26th September 2024, peacefully after a short illness, of ex DC 942 Frank HODKINSON, 97 years.  His next of kin is his son, Mr Gary Hodkinson.

Frank retired in about 1979 having joined the Derby Borough Police.  He served in Derby CID and Nottinghamshire Regional Crime Squad.  After retiring he was a Bailiff for Derby City Council.

There will be no funeral as he wanted a Direct Cremation.

​​It is with sadness that I have to inform your of the unexpected and sudden death on Thursday 19th September  2024 of Mrs Peta Joan POTTER nee Cresswell​, 69 years, wife of ex DC 436 Clive Potter.

Peta passed away peacefully whilst having lunch out, with Clive, and as such may require an inquest.

Peta Cresswell as she was known worked at Police Headquarters mainly in charge of the Special Branch office and latterly in FIB before retiring in 2015.

It is with sadness that I have to inform you of the death on the 19th August 2024,  peacefully at home after a long illness,  of ex PC 840 Brian LANGHAM, 82 years. Brian was ex Derby Borough and served his entire career in Derby. His next of kin is his son Mr Richard Langham, his wife, Helen, predeceased him.

His funeral was held at 3.30pm on Wednesday 18th September 2024, at Trent Valley Crematorium.

It is with sadness that I have to inform you of the death in Chesterfield Royal Hospital on Tuesday 1st August 2024 of ex Insp 51 Ronald HIPKISS, 95 years, of Ashgate, Chesterfield. His next of kin is his wife Lucy Hipkiss who is living with dementia in a Care Home. All communications via his son, Mr Jason Hipkiss. 

Ron as he was known, joined Derbyshire Police after National Service, where he served in Libya. He served in Driving School and Firearms retiring in 1985/86 as Inspector at the new Chesterfield Police Station. On retiring he was Head of Security at Robinsons, Chesterfield until 1995.

His funeral has been arranged for 1.30pm on Friday 6th September 2024 at Chesterfield Crematorium, Brimington Road, Chesterfield S43 1AU.
