It is with sadness that I have to inform you of the death on the 17th March 2025, peacefully at home, of ex DC 605 John DIXON. He had a partner Margaret and his next of kin is his son James Dixon to whom any correspondence should be sent.
John retired in about 1986 having served in Frecheville (now South Yorkshire), Codnor where he was the community beat officer and lastly in CID at Derby, until his retirement. ![]() It is with sadness that I have to inform you of the death of Mrs Rosemary (Rose) HAND, the widow of retired Sgt Dennis Hand. Rosemary was the former secretary of the Chief Constable of the Derby Borough Constabulary and later worked in the Local Intelligence Office. She was well known to many who worked in the old 'D' Division. Rosemary's funeral is to be held at 11.30am on Thursday 17th April at Trent Valley Crematorium. Ian Louch (Chair) It is with sadness that I have to inform you of the death of Mrs Elizabeth MELVILLE, wife of ex PC 49 David Melville, who passed away peacefully on the 10th December 2024 in a Care Home in Pilar de la Horadada, Spain following a long illness. She was 73 years old.

His next of kin is his partner of many years, Coral Cocksworth. Paul served as a Detective in Derby, Long Eaton, Alfreton, Ilkeston and Regional Crime Squad. He retired in about 2002 when he worked with the late Bill Dugard eventually taking over when Bill passed, and then by himself and Derby University. Pooley as he was affectionally known, at his request, is having a Direct Cremation, so there will be no funeral. His next of kin is his wife, Mrs Margaret Cooper. Any correspondence care of her son, Mr John Cooper.
Tony as he was known served at Buxton, Chesterfield and Derby both at Full Street and Cotton Lane Police Stations, where he was promoted Sergeant. He retired on ill health just prior to 1990. At his request there will be no funeral just a Direct Cremation. Doreen’s next of kin is her son, Mr Michael Hibbert. She was a widow member of NARPO.

Frank served on Traffic including the motor cycle section and was the Inkersall Beat Officer. He then worked in the Cell Block at Chesterfield Police Station before retiring on ill health in 1994. It is with sadness that I have to inform you of the death of retired Sgt 327 Victor (known as Frank) HANDFORD, 89 years. Frank died peacefully at home following a period of ill health. His next of kin is his daughter, Julie. Frank joined the Derbyshire Police in 1960 and retired in 1990. The majority of his service was in Chesterfield Division. His funeral has been arranged for 2.15pm on Monday 17th February 2025 at St Johns Church, Newbold, Chesterfield; followed by a committal at Chesterfield Crematorium, Brimington Road, Chesterfield S43 1AU. Ted joined the Derbyshire Police in 1957 following his National Service. He served mainly in Chesterfield Division and retired after 25 years service as a Station Sergeant at Chesterfield in 1982. Mick had been suffering with Alzheimer’s disease for a couple of years and had resided at Kilburn Care Home since his health declined towards the end of last year. His next of kin is his wife, Maureen Hardwick, and he leaves 2 sons, Darren and Stephen. Mick, a former Royal Marine joined the Derbyshire Constabulary in 1969, starting his Police career in Chesterfield. He went on to serve on Road Traffic at Matlock and on promotion worked at Ripley. In 1976 Mick was transferred to the Driving School as an Instructor where he became a legendary figure in that department, with very high standards. He retired in 1996. Following his retirement he worked as the chauffeur for the Bishop of Derby, was the Treasurer of the Derby Branch of the Royal Marine Association and was an active member of NARPO. His funeral will be held at 3.00pm on Monday 17th February 2025 at Amber Valley Memorial Park and Crematorium, Derby Road, Swanwick DE55 1BH. Alan served at Derby, Somercotes, Whaley Bridge, New Mills CID and Derby, where he retired as Sergeant in about 1985. He then worked as a Manager of Joseph Paints, Derby. Trevor was suffering from Myeloma but his death was unexpected and he had arranged with John Hickman to watch a football match on the ward TV. Trevor joined the Derby Borough Police as PC 177. Under amalgamation his collar number was changed to 833. He served in Derby, Matlock and finally as Divisional Commander at Alfreton with John Hickman as second in command. Trevor retired in 1989 and then worked with Bowmer and Kirkland, Heage in Security. Trevor's funeral has been arranged for 10.30am on Friday 20th December 2024 at St. Pauls Church, Church Road, Quarndon, Derby DE22 2PE, and afterwards at the Farmhouse at Mackwworth, Ashbourne Road, Derby DE22 4LY. John as he was known was suffering from a terminal cancer but his death was unexpected, John served at Chesterfield, Buxton, Derby and lastly as Superintendent at Alfreton. He retired in about 1988. He was a member of the International Police Association and travelled on the continent frequently with them. He was also a member of NARPO and attended many functions. Ironically he was a good friend of ex C/Supt Trevor Kitchener and they were recently in Hospital and passed away with 4 days of each other. Fred joined Warwickshire Police before transferring to Leicestershire on promotion. In 1969 he transferred on promotion to Derbyshire, where he was stationed at Buxton as Chief Superintendent. In 1976 he transferred to Northumbria Police as Assistant Chief Constable and later as Deputy Chief Constable until his retirement. Fred is the Father of Mrs Dawn Gray whose husband is ex C/Insp Robin Gray. After National Service Alan as he was known joined the Derbyshire Police and served at Ticknall and Derby. He worked in the Collators Office at Full Street where he was promoted but took early retirement in 1976 due to the fact that he was Diabetic. He then worked as the Property Officer at Cotton Lane Police Station as a civilian where he put his organisational skills to good use. During his last few years, he suffered with bladder cancer as well as diabetes. David’s next of kin is his wife, Shirley Collyer-Bacon. David joined Derbyshire in 1965 and served at Ilkeston, Willington, Alfreton and Belper and also Road Traffic. He was an instructor in Cadet and Regular Officer Training at Headquarters where he was promoted Sergeant. He retired in 1995 and for the next ten years he was employed as a consultant Trainer for 3 or 4 courses a year. David suffered with Pulmonary Fibrosis but it never stopped him living his life, enjoying holidays, NARPO trips and meals. David was a well loved and respected Officer who will be missed. Peta passed away peacefully whilst having lunch out, with Clive, and as such may require an inquest. Peta Cresswell as she was known worked at Police Headquarters mainly in charge of the Special Branch office and latterly in FIB before retiring in 2015. During his Police career he was always known as Tim (maybe due to the fact that he was 6’6’’ Tiny Tim) and Tony to his family. Tim joined the Police in 1960 and retired in June 1986 in the rank of Inspector. He served at Chesterfield, Staveley, Matlock and Derby in CID and as head of the Fraud Squad. On retirement he worked as Security Consultant with ‘Coalite’. After many years he set up his own company ‘Slack Security’. A fact that missed him entirely according to his family. His funeral has been arranged for 1.00pm on Friday 11th October 2024 at All Saints Church, Longedge Lane, Wingerworth, Chesterfield S42 6PU; followed by interment at the Church. Nigel joined Derbyshire Constabulary on 22 July 1985 and worked at, Derby, Ashbourne, Headquarters and retired as an Inspector on South Division in July 2015. Ron as he was known, joined Derbyshire Police after National Service, where he served in Libya. He served in Driving School and Firearms retiring in 1985/86 as Inspector at the new Chesterfield Police Station. On retiring he was Head of Security at Robinsons, Chesterfield until 1995.
