It is with sadness that I have to inform you of the death on Wednesday 10th February 2021, peacefully in her Care Home, of Mrs Margaret (known as Peggy) Ada Sanderson, 98 years.  Peggy was the widow of PC Jack Sanderson who retired in 1971 and passed away in 1985. Her next of kin is her son Philip Sanderson.

Her funeral has been arranged for  1.30pm on Wednesday 24th February 2021 at Amberley Chapel, Marden, nr. Hereford HR1 3HH followed by interment at 2.15pm at Humber Woodland of Remembrance, Leominster HR6 0NE. It is with sadness that I have to inform you of the death on the 31st January 2021, whilst in her Care Home, of Mrs Dora Smith, 95 years, widow of ex PC Jim Smith (Rtd 1975).  Dora’s next of kin is her son Mr Stuart Smith.

​It is with sadness that I have to inform you of the death on the 12th February 2021 at Nottingham City Hospital from Covid of Mrs Diane Tidman, 77 years, widow of Insp Alan Tidman. Diane’s next of kin is her daughter Mrs Beth Mellor.

It is with sadness that I have to inform you of the death yesterday morning, Thursday 11th February 2021, at the Park Farm Lodge Care Home, Kettlebrook, Tamworth, Staffs, of ex PC Frank William Shaw, 100 years, after a short stay in Hospital. Frank’s next of kin is his son, Mr. Glyn Shaw. 

Frank served in Buxton and on Traffic.  In 1974 he was kidnapped whilst on traffic patrol duty in Buxton Town Centre, by an armed escapee from Broadmoor Prison and made to drive him to Blackpool where he handed himself in.  Frank was unhurt.

If you recall, Frank reached the ripe old age of 100 on the 23rd May 2020.  The Chief, PCC and our Chair, Dave Ashley wrote to him congratulating him of reaching this milestone and Derbyshire NARPO made him a ‘Life Member’.

23/02/21 Frank's family have decided to have a Direct Cremation with no mourners.  This will take place in the next fortnight and his ashes will be scattered in his boyhood haunts in Derbyshire..

It is with sadness that I have to inform you of the death on Saturday 23rd January 2021 of Mrs Patricia (Pat) Jane Burton, 69 years, in the Royal Derby Hospital.  Her next of kin is her husband ex PC 87 Allan Burton. Pat had over the last 22yrs suffered from several serious diseases and whilst in hospital before Christmas she caught Covid and because of the underlying illnesses she was unable to fight it.
 
Pat’s funeral  ‘A Celebration of Pat’s Life’ has been arranged at 1.20pm on Friday 19th February 2021, due to Covid restrictions this will be a family service, however you can view the funeral by following the below instructions:

It is with sadness that I have to inform you of the sudden death, on Friday 29th January 2021, of ex Sgt  405 Geoffrey Thomas Potten, 86 years.  His next of kin is his wife Mrs Sylvia Diane Potten.

Geoff, as he was known, retired in 1982 whilst Sergeant at Chesterfield.  He served mainly on Road Traffic and Motorway section.

His funeral will be held at 11.00am on Monday 1st March 2021 at Amber Valley Memorial Park and Crematorium, Derby Road, Swanwick, Alfreton DE55 1BH. This will be a small family service and Covid restrictions will apply.
