It is with sadness that I have to inform you of the death on the 11th November 2023, peacefully at home, of ex Sgt 654 Maxwell Pierre DAKIN, 93 years.  His next of kin is his wife Mrs Louise Dakin.

Max, after National Service in the Army,  joined Derbyshire Police serving mainly in Chesterfield and Renishaw, retiring as Sergeant in 1984.

Max will be remembered as a very good footballer playing for Sheffield United A team and Derbyshire police teams.

His funeral has been arranged for 11.00am on Thursday 14th December 2023 at St. Michael’s Church, Old School Main Street, Birchover, Derbyshire  DE4 2BG  followed by interment at Birchover Cemetery.

As a young bobby fresh from training school Max was so kind to me. Although I only stayed in the Force 5 years and not seeing Max for many years he has always stayed in my memory.
R.I.P. max you were one of the best.

Max was the epitome of a Section Sergeant, always calm, able to support you with good advice and keen to do the job. A great example to me and others. He was also a great footballer and I felt pleased to be on the same side. Sincere condolences to all Max's family.

Max was one of my first section Sergeants at Chesterfield, he was an imposing presence and experienced mentor to a shift full of probationers. He was totally unflappable and his chilled and avuncular demeanour was incredible to behold, and despite this outward facade was a warm, caring and considerate copper. When my motor bike conked out, I told him I was having transport problems, and he passed to on to his teenage son (later to become an excellent copper too) , who fixed it in a jiffy. A top fella, very well respected, and as Kev so rightly stated, a legend in Chesterfield police circles.RIP sarge.
