I'm sorry to inform you of the death of Mr. John Hool 93yrs, formerly caretaker at Ilkeston Police Station. He will be remembered by many who worked there during the late 1980s.

His funeral will be at Serenity Chapel, Bramcote Crematorium, at 11.00am on Tuesday 4th April 2023. Enquiries to Gillotts Funeral Directors, Abbott Street, Heanor.

It is with sadness that I have to inform you of the death on Sunday 26th March 2023, peacefully in Hospital, of ex PC 666 Kenneth CATTON, 94 years.  His next of kin is his son, Alan Catton.

Ken as he was known joined the Police in 1952, after National Service.  He served in Swadlincote, Chesterfield, Road Traffic and Enquiry Office, Chesterfield   He retired in 1978.

His funeral has been arranged for 1.30pm on Thursday 27th April 2023 at Chesterfield Crematorium, Brimington, Chesterfield and afterwards at The Brittannia Public House, 56, Old Hall Road, Chesterfield S40 1HD.

The family are very appreciative of the letters of sympathy.

It is with sadness that I have to inform you of the death on Wednesday, 22nd March 2023, peacefully following a stroke, of Mrs Joan VAINES widow of C/Insp Archie Vaines. Joan’s next of kin is her daughter Diane Harris. 

Her funeral has been arranged for 11.00am on Tuesday 18th April 2023 at Amber Valley Memorial Park and Crematorium, Derby Road, Swanwick DE55 1BH followed by a Church Service at All Saints Church, Matlock DE4 3JG.

It is with sadness that I have to inform you of the death of ex PC Stephen Robert PICKLES who passed away after a short illness at The City Hospital, Nottingham on 25th January 2023. His next of kin was his sixth wife Mrs Chris Hallam. 

I believe Stephen joined the Derbyshire Constabulary in approximately 1966, retiring after 30 years service. I understand that he served in various areas of the force, including Alfreton, Buxton and Long Eaton. There is also a suggestion that he served as a Constable in Nottinghamshire Police for some time, possibly immediately before retirement. After his retirement it is believed that he again joined Nottinghamshire as a member of their Support Staff in the role of a Custody officer or similar. 

His funeral service was held at Bramcote Crematorium on 16th February 2023.

It is will sadness that I have to inform you of the death on Tuesday 7th March 2023 of ex D/Sgt 151 Harold "H" ROBINSON, 81yrs. Harold had been suffering from Dementia for several years and died peacefully in his sleep at Oaklands Care Home, Langwith. His carer for a number of years had been his former colleague Roger Bowler. Can I ask that any correspondence be sent to Mr Bowler.
 
'H' joined the Derbyshire Constabulary as a Cadet in 1957 and joined the regular force a few years later. He served at Matlock, Staveley, was promoted to Sergeant at Belper and later served on the CID at Chesterfield and on the regional Crime Squad. He finished his service as a D/Sgt at Bakewell retiring in 1988. Harold was a great character and raconteur and will be missed by all those who had the pleasure to work with him.
 
His funeral will take place 9.50am on Thursday 30th March 2023 at Chesterfield Crematorium.

It is with sadness that I have to inform you of the death, after a short illness on Saturday 18th February 2023 of former PC 501 Trevor MORRIS, 75yrs. His next of kin is his wife Glennis Morris. He also leaves a son Matthew.
 
Trevor joined the Derbyshire Police in 1968. He served at Renishaw, Ripley, Chaddesden and in the enquiry office at Full Street Police Station. He retired in 2000 but went on to work in File Preparation in Derby. 
 
His funeral took place on Wednesday 15th March 2023 at Swanwick Crematorium.

It is with sadness that I have to inform you of the death, after a short illness on Tuesday 21st February 2023 of former D/Sgt 686 Dennis RODGERS, 89yrs. His wife had died 3 years previously and his next of kin is his son Tony Rodgers. 
 
Dennis joined Force in 1952, he worked in Derby Division and in the Traffic Department. Having attended DTS in 1962 Dennis moved to the CID in Chesterfield. He worked throughout Chesterfield Division and for a period on the Regional Crime Squad in Sheffield. In 1967 Dennis together with his colleague John Shaw were awarded the Queens Commendation for Bravery following a serious incident in Chesterfield.  Dennis also represented the British Police in Rally Driving and competed throughout Europe. He retired in 1979 having achieved the rank of Detective Sergeant and then was employed for 10 years as an investigator with the Post Office.  
 
His funeral took place on Friday 17th March at Chesterfield Crematorium.

​It is with deep sadness that I have to inform you of the death, after a 15 month illness, on 7th February 2023 of John FIELD, collar number 1116.  His next of kin is his wife Kate.

He joined the Derbyshire Constabulary in (approx.) 1973 and retired in 2003.

His funeral took place at 11.00 am on Tuesday 28th February 2023.

It is with sadness that I have to inform you of the death on 6th February 2023 of retired Police Sergeant 101 Leslie OLDHAM, 96yrs. He passed away peacefully at the Care Home in Worksop where he had been resident for some time.  His next of kin and only known relative is his daughter in law.
 
I understand that Mr Oldham joined the Derbyshire Constabulary during the late 1950’s and before his retirement in approx. 1988 had served at Chesterfield and in the Operations Room at Force Headquarters.
 
His funeral took place at 3.00pm on Thursday, 2nd March 2023 at Babworth Crematorium, Retford, Notts.

It is with sadness that I have to inform you of the death after a short illness on 6th January 2023 of ex PC 1206 Edward LAW. His next of kin at the time of his passing was his wife, Ann, who has now also sadly passed away some 10 days later from an unrelated illness on 16th January, 2023.
 
The couple’s next of kin now is their son, Mr Steve Law
 
Mr Law initially joined the Metropolitan police before moving to Derbyshire in the early 1970’s.   He worked a beat in the Renishaw, Whitwell and Clowne areas and then in the office at Chesterfield, before his retirement in the late 90’s. 
 
Funeral arrangements are not known, other than it will be a double funeral.

​It is with sadness that I have to inform you of the death, after a short illness  of  former Dc 25 Bob MAKIN, 70yrs. His next of kin is his wife Pat Makin. 
 
Bob (Robert) joined Force in 1974 when he worked in Derby but left to start his own business and returned to the Police Service in 1979 working as a Detective in Chesterfield Division.  He then left the job once more and became a successful landlord at the Wheatsheaf at Baslow and the Gate at Cutthorpe.
 
His funeral was held at 12.50 pm on Wednesday 8th February at Chesterfield Crematorium.

It is with sadness that I have to inform you of the death on Thursday 29th December 2022, at home after a short battle with Cancer of Mrs Valerie Joy Bushell, 76 years, wife of ex Pc (1105) Keith Bushell.  Her next of kin is her husband Keith.

It is with sadness that I have to inform you of the sudden death on Tuesday 27th December 2022, after a short illness of ex Chief Superintendent 1566 Roger FLINT QPM, 64 years.  His next of kin is his wife Tracy Flint.  Roger was a merchant seaman for 7 years before joining the Police in 1983 serving at Ripley, Buxton and Chesterfield and retiring in 2011 as Chief Superintendent.
 
Roger was a respected trained hostage negotiator, representing the East Midlands on the UK Negotiating Board and worked across the world as part on an International Cadre that helped secure the release of British subjects.
 
Roger’s funeral was held at 11.00am on Saturday, 21st January, 2023, at St. John The Baptist Church, Commercial Road, Tideswell,Derbyshire SK1 8LF and followed by a private family burial.

​It is with sadness that I have to inform you of the death on the 8th December 2022, after a short illness at Derby Royal Hospital of ex C/Insp (164) Peter WHITWORTH,81yrs .
 
Peter’s wife, Margaret only passed away on the 20th August, 2022.  His next of kin is his son, Paul Whitworth.
 
Peter joined the Derbyshire Police as a Cadet in 1957 and as a Police Constable serving in Ripley, Matlock and at Police Headquarters retiring in 1995 as Chief Inspector.  On retiring from the Police he worked for Derbyshire County Council as an Area Supervisor for the School Crossing Service.
 
Peter’s funeral was held at 4.00pm on Thursday, 29th December, 2022, at Amber Valley Memorial Park and Crematorium, Derby Road, Swanwick, Alfreton DE55 1BH.

It is with sadness that I have to inform you of the death on the 29th November 2022, after living with Dementia for the past two years, of Mrs. Patricia (Pat) Kathleen DOMLEO, 87 years, wife of ex Pc (851) James (Jim) Domleo.
 
There will be no funeral service and it is being dealt with by Direct Cremation with family only present.

​It is with sadness that I have to inform you of the death on the 23rd November 2022, peacefully at home of Mrs. Ann Edith ‘Beau’ ECCLES-WALKER, 81 years, wife of ex DC (69 Boro’) (877 County)) Peter Walker.
 
Beau as she was known joined the Police in 1964 and for most of her service she was a Detective Constable in Derby until her retirement in 1991.
 
Beau’s funeral was held at 1.00pm on Tuesday, 20th December, 2022 at Markeaton Crematorium, Derby.

It is with sadness that I have to inform you of the death on the 28th November 2022, in Hospital, after a short illness, of ex Insp 26 Richard (Dick) Henry SMITH, 86 years.  His next of kin, is his wife Mrs. Eileen Marjorie Smith.

Dick as he was known joined the Derby Borough Police Cadets, aged 17 years.  He then did his National Service with the RAF Police and re-joined the Police after his National Service.  He served mainly in Derby,  CID and at Belper.  He was attached to the Nottinghamshire Crime Squad.  He retired in 1987 and then worked for Pinder’s Solicitors, Derby.

His funeral has been arranged for 12.30pm., Wednesday, 4th January, 2023, in the Main Chapel at Markeaton Crematorium, Derby..

It is with sadness that I have to inform you of the death on the 19th May 2022 of Mrs Ethel Felicia FRYER, 93 years, widow of Mr James Fryer QPM, former Chief Constable of Derbyshire who died in service in 1981.  Her next of kin is her daughter, Mrs Joanna Delor.

Her funeral has already taken place.

It is with sadness that I have to inform you of the death on Wednesday 26th October 2022 of ex PC
915 Paul DIBBLE, 76 years.  His next of kin is his daughter Tracy TISO. he also has a son Martyn Dibble.  Paul joined the Derby Boro’ Police in 1967.  He served all his service in Derby retiring in 1997.

Tragically Paul was diagnosed with terminal cancer last January.  His wife Tricia died in September, of this year and Paul was too ill to attend her funeral a few days before he passed away.

Paul’s funeral has been arranged for 10.30am on Monday 14th November 2022 at Trent Valley Crematorium, Derby Road, Aston on Trent, Derby DE72 2AF and afterwards at the Coopers Arms, Weston on Trent, DE72 2BJ.
