It is with sadness that I have to inform you of the death yesterday 27th January of my Dad ex-Insp John Louch 85yrs, after a short illness. His next of kin is his wife Maureen.

John joined the Derby Borough Police in 1958 and following the amalgamation joined the CID at Derby West until his promotion in 1973. John then worked at Peartree and as the Divisional Sgt in the Crime Prevention Dept. He was promoted to Inspector at Full Street, Derby in 1981 and later returned to lead the Crime Prevention Department until retirement in 1988.

In latter years John took an active role as a committee member of the Derbyshire Branch of NARPO and on the committee of the Mutual Welfare fund. He was a larger than life character who will be sorely missed by his family.

His funeral will be held at 2.30pm on Thursday 24th February 2022 at Trent Valley Crematoriun, Derby Road, Aston on Trent. DE72 2AF. Refreshments will be at Mickleover Golf Club, Uttoxeter Road, Derby afterwards.

Tributes can be left on this page or on Facebook.

John was Station Sgt at Cotton Lane in 1980 in tandem with his legendary sidekick PC Dave Gates in front office, What a double act!

I was a teenage, green probationer under considerable pressure from Section supervision who were ruthless, unkind and notorious for “getting rid!” Such were those times.

Sgt Louch (known to us lads and lasses as Zoony) was THE voice of reason, who insisted I for one, didn’t throw the towel in. He helped me so much.

Maureen and John had the dubious pleasure of my missus Sheryl being their hairdresser for quite a while in their Mackworth home.

A couple of years ago, I sought John out through NARPO and thanked him for believing in me, resulting in my full service and happy retirement.

I’ve no doubt John packed 120 years into his 85.
A man about whom I’ve never heard a bad word.

Condolences to Maureen, Ian and all the family.

RIP John. Top bloke. Thank you.

Very close to John especially when we were swimming with other Police Officers when ALL Police had to be able to swim.
He helped numerous officers out with sketches for their Road Accidents, they were dealing with As John did by far the BEST Sketches. Brian 146. Then 942

It was always a pleasure working with John when he joined us at St. Mary’s Gate, always cheerful and nothing too much trouble.

I still to this day talk to old mates from the job about when out of the blue your dad contacted me after I’d had the misfortune to have had an accident a significant injury and lengthy hospital stay16 years after leaving the job.He arranged for me to attend Rehab at Goring on Thames.Sorting all the necessary paperwork for me.He said my job was just to get there. !!!!.Not only did I like him in work but he was a great chap out of it.What a smashing chap.Another character that will never be replaced.

I was sorry to hear about your dad Ian; I enjoyed his company at Narpo Cttee meetings & had in the past, read his numerous articles about the police in the local Newpaper & Upbeat. He was always smiling & never afraid to give an opinion on something if asked, which is very much part & parcel of any Cttee. He will be sorely missed.

Ian and family, so sorry for your loss. I echo everything others have said on here and on FB. Early in service I spent a couple of weeks with him on my Crime Prevention attachment and from then on he always had positive words of encouragement and a few laughs. No doubt you'll very much miss him but there'll be lots of memories and a few well embellished stories to remember him by. R.I.P. John.
