John was one of those bobbies of (to me as a raw probationer), indeterminate service, who was at Buxton when I arrived in early 1972 into a world of Morris 1000 Pandas and sheep dipping. I respected him for his calm, no nonsense ability and knowledge. Our careers parted ways but during 45 years service, his was a name and collar number I always remembered. Deepest sympathy to Angela and family.
