It is with sadness that I have to inform you of the death yesterday, Thursday 18th March 2021, peacefully in Hospital, of ex C/Insp 706 Henry MacDonald SPENCER, 78 years. His next of kin is his wife, Mrs Gwen Spencer.

Harry, as he was known, retired in 1988 on an ill health pension.  Harry started his career as a Police Cadet before joining the Regular Force in 1962. He served at Alfreton and Littleover before joining the British South Africa Police in Rhodesia in 1965.  In 1966 he rejoined the Derbyshire Police and served in Swadlincote, Belper, Staveley, Chesterfield and finally at Headquarters as Chief Inspector in Planning and Development.

On retirement they moved to Spain where they remained until 2018 before returning to the UK due to his ill health.

His funeral has been arranged for 3.50pm on Wednesday 7th April 2021 at Lincoln Crematorium, Washingborough Road, Lincoln LN4 1EF.   Highly observant Covid restrictions are in place at this Crematorium.

A true gentleman and police officer of the highest integrity. Fond memories of serving with him at Staveley. He was Linda's first Sergeant.and well respected. Our thoughts are with his family.
