Alan was one of the best cops I have had the honour to serve with. He was an excellent DS and I spent three years on the Drug Squad with Alan as my supervisor. I have the greatest respect for him. It is so sad that he has been taken. RIP my friend.

Very sad. I remember Alan joining as a cadet in the mid 60's and our paths crossed many times during and after service. Alan was a proper copper and a good man, RIP.

Never actually worked with Alan but just knew him most of my Service in CID. Good colleague and a very funny man. As soon as I heard that he had passed, the word 'Rinokapig' came into my head from 50 years ago. I cant remember in what context though.
