It is with sadness that I have to inform you of the death on Monday 6th September, 2021, of ex PC 581 Desmond ‘Des’ John O’BRIEN, 93 years, at his Nursing Home in Belper. His next of kin is his son Philip O’Brien. Des as he was known, started with the British Transport Police for 5 years before joining Derby Boro’ Police (Pc 33) before amalgamation. He served mainly in the Boro’ and South Derbyshire and for the last 10 years he was a Crime Prevention Officer. He was heavily involved with the Police Federation where he was chair of the JBB. He retired in 1980 when he worked as Security at Gloworm, Belper. His funeral has been arranged for 2.00pm on Thursday, 30th September 2021 at the Round Chapel, Markeaton Crematorium, Derby. I worked with Des at St Mary's Gate after the amalgamation. One morning we attended at a break in at a school off Kedleston Road where the offenders were believed to be still on the premises.
