When Derek and I attended the Armistice Day service, he would complain if they did not have ‘his’ hymn which contained the words ‘For those in peril on the sea’. I’m having it my funeral said he. Sorry it has come so soon.

Derek was my boss in Special Branch. Good boss, colleague and friend. Always had a ready smile.

RIP Derek. Great character, only ever met with him off duty. The people on my beat only ever had the greatest praise for him and that included his "customers"! Well known, well loved and a great inspiration to many.
