It is with sadness that I have to inform you of the death in Tameside General Hospital on Saturday 11th June 2026, following a long and difficult battle against Pancreatic Cancer, of ex PC 1417 Stephen Samuel MURRELL, 72 yrs. His next of kin is his wife, Lynne, who is being supported by their son Daniel.
He joined the Derbyshire Constabulary around 1978 and served mainly in Glossop and Buxton and was well known as a goaler in Buxton Custody suite during the latter days of his service. He retired after 30 years police service. There will be no funeral as a Direct Cremation is to be arranged in accordance with Steve's wishes. Richard 'Doc' Watson (Secretary Derbys NARPO)

I am so sorry to lose my good friend Steve. We worked together for many years and he made me laugh every single day. Who can forget the banner he put up above the Custody Desk every Christmas wishing all our customers a Happy Christmas and a Prosperous New Year.
