It is with sadness that I have to inform you of the death on the 4th September 2024 of ex Insp 373 James Anthony Critchlow SLACK, 91 years, of Wingerworth. His next of kin is his wife, Joan Slack, who is living with Dementia. Any correspondence please to their daughter, Carol Slack.
During his Police career he was always known as Tim (maybe due to the fact that he was 6’6’’ Tiny Tim) and Tony to his family. Tim joined the Police in 1960 and retired in June 1986 in the rank of Inspector. He served at Chesterfield, Staveley, Matlock and Derby in CID and as head of the Fraud Squad. On retirement he worked as Security Consultant with ‘Coalite’. After many years he set up his own company ‘Slack Security’. A fact that missed him entirely according to his family. His funeral has been arranged for 1.00pm on Friday 11th October 2024 at All Saints Church, Longedge Lane, Wingerworth, Chesterfield S42 6PU; followed by interment at the Church. Sean Murphy (Secretary)

Jim and I were together at Pannal Ash Training Centre in January 1960. I was just nineteen years old while Jim had a lot more experience in life. It was quite a young intake and Jim obviously stood head and shoulders above us in experience and stature.
