Raymond William BETTS

It is with sadness that I have to inform you of the death on 29th September 2026 of retired PC 1095 Raymond William BETTS, 82 years. His next of kin is his wife, Carol.

It is believed that Ray served mainly in the Chesterfield area, working at Renishaw and as Tibshelf beat officer for years. He served 25 years and retiring around 1996.

His funeral will be held at 11.00am on Monday 26th October at Amber Valley Crematorium.

I’m proud to say that Ray (Bobby) Betts was one of my dearest and long standing friends.
A kinder and more generous bloke would be impossible to find. One of those men about whom you never heard a bad word. Just as important, Ray never uttered a bad word about anyone else. Oh, and he never swore.
A solid old fashioned practical cop who did things his own way as a village Bobby. Few arrests, but his car was somehow always clean and his garden dug!!!
Horse racing and a flutter was his passion and his name was first on the list for the racing holidays I organised.
Ray will be sorely missed. Our condolences to Carol and all the family.
Rest in Peace my old friend and back a few winners up there!

Ray was a great colleague, served with him at Renishaw. Always cheerful. R.I.P. Ray.
