It is with sadness that I have to inform you of the death on Friday 31st July 2026 of former PC 1028 John Hulse WARD, 87 years. John had been suffering from Myeloma cancer for a long time and was being cared for in a care home at the time of his death. His next of kin is his wife, Margaret.
John started his career as a marine at the age of seventeen. He left the marines after ten years and joined Derbyshire Constabulary a week later. During his thirty-three years of police service, he spent eighteen of them working in the Firearms dept. and worked mainly around Headquarters. He thoroughly enjoyed his role. Sadly, shortly after he retired, his first wife, Vera died. He then met Margaret, a widow with a sixteen year old son, Neil. John and Margaret celebrated twenty seven years of marriage. His funeral has been arranged for 1.20pm on Wednesday 26th August 2026 at Bradwell Crematorium, Chatterley Close, Newcastle-under-Lyme ST5 8LE. A wake will be held afterwards at Newcastle-under-Lyme Golf Club, Whitmore Road, Newcastle ST5 2QB. Belinda Elliott (Derbys NARPO Committee)

I had the pleasure of working with John at Peartree for many years.Typical Military Man extremely smart in appearance and knowledgeable. Work wise he ‘got stuck in’ .He inevitably moved onto the Firearms Dept and continued to pass on his well honed skills. A good age Mate. RIP Rick Foster
