It is with sadness that I have to inform you of the death in Hospital after a short illness on Saturday 1st February 2025 of ex PC 985 Frank CLARKE, 82 years.  His next of kin is his wife, Mrs Edith Clarke.

Frank served on Traffic including the motor cycle section and was the Inkersall Beat Officer.  He then worked in the Cell Block at Chesterfield Police Station before retiring on ill health in 1994.  He was a keen golfer and played for the Force team.

His funeral has been arranged for 12.50pm on Wednesday 19th February 2025 at Chesterfield Crematorium, Brimington Road, Chesterfield S43 1AU.

My Dad had kittens when he discovered Frank was a Bobby in 1976.
I was only16 and regularly enjoyed a couple of Harp Lagers playing darts with Dad in the Arkwright Arms - Frank’s local.
Frank put him at ease and said he “couldn’t see me coming to much harm in the company of his dad”
I subsequently got to know Frank within the ‘job’ including working opposite him in C Div Custody, often reminiscing about Sunny and Ada (Licencees ) and times in the “bottom duck” pub.
No mean golfer (with whom I locked horns) he often honed his talents during a quiet night shift on a carpet in Detention Room 3 with plastic practice balls, the thwacks reverberating around the cell block.
My dad's sadly not around to say cheerio Frank, but I’ll do it for him.
Steady away owd lad.
Condolences to Mrs Clarke and all the family.

I knew Frank when I was a beat bobby at Staveley. He was a sound cop and a polite and likeable man. R.I.P Frank.

So sad to hear of the passing of my first divisional sergeant Frank Handford. His undying patience in showing me how to put a file together played a major part in getting me through my probation.
A decent and caring man who will be much missed. R.I.P. Sarge.

I served with Frank at Staveley and Chesterfield Traffic. He was always cheerful and ready to assist when needed. R.I.P. Frank and sincere condolences to Edith.
