It is with sadness that I have to inform you of the death on Wednesday 21st May 2025 of ex Sgt 371 Geoffrey SAUNBY, 93 years. His next of kin is his wife Mrs Janet Elizabeth Saunby. Geoff as he was known had been living with mild dementia, had a chest infection requiring a hospital stay and after complications died peacefully with Janet by his side.
Geoff retired from the Police in 1987 having served at Chesterfield and Derby finishing in the Comms. Room, Derby. He married Janet in the same year. He then became a County Court Bailiff until retiring when he was 62. Members will remember his wife Janet Roebuck as WPC 1790 at Derby. His funeral has been arranged for 12.30pm on Wednesday 25th June 2025 at Derby Crematorium, Markeaton Lane, Derby. Family flowers only. It is with sadness that I have to inform you of the death on the 17th April, 2025 peacefully at home with his family present, of ex Sgt 490 Thomas ‘Tom’ Walter EMMERSON, 83 years. Tom’s wife Jean predeceased him. His next of kin are Paul Emmerson and Tracey Jane Andrews. Tom was only recently diagnosed with Cancer and unfortunately lost his battle.
Tom retired in 1994 having served at Staveley, CID, No3 Crime Squad at Sheffield. He was promoted to Sergeant at Staveley Police Station. Tom’s funeral has already taken place on the 13th May 2025 at Amber Valley Memorial Gardens and Crematorium, Swanwick Sean Murphy It is with sadness that I have to inform you of the death in hospital after a fall of Mrs Mary PINK, 92 years, on the 12th May 2025. Mary was the widow of PC Maurice Pink who passed in 2018. Mary’s next of kin is her daughter Mary Martin.
As per Mary’s wishes she will have a Direct Cremation with no funeral. Sean Murphy (Secretary) It is with sadness that I have to inform you of the death on the 8th May 2025 of ex PC 425 Frank GREGORY, 92 years. Frank died peacefully in Hospital after a stay of nine weeks. His next of kin is his wife Mrs Patricia Gregory. Frank married Patricia 35 years ago after he retired, so his service history is a little sketchy. Frank served his National Service in the RAF Regiment for 3 years before joining Derbyshire Police. During his service he was a driving instructor at Headquarters. He retired in 1983 and rejoined the Police as a civilian driving instructor. He will be well remembered by those he taught to drive to the highest Police standard.
He was a member of NARPO and served as Secretary and Treasurer for many years for which he was granted Life Membership. As per his wishes there will be a Direct Cremation so there will be no funeral. Irene died peacefully in a Nursing Home at Dronfield after a two year stay suffering from Alzheimer’s.
Irene’s funeral has been arranged for 10.50am on Friday 23rd May 2025 at Chesterfield Crematorium, Brimington Road, Chesterfield. Sean Murphy (Secretary) It is with sadness that I have to inform you of the death on the 26th April 2025 of ex Chief Inspector Ivor Harry Roger COLPUS, 87 years. His next of kin is his daughter Mrs Sally Greasley. Ivor’s wife Anne predeceased him 3 years ago. Ivor passed away peacefully in a Nursing Home after a short battle with cancer with family members present.
Ivor transferred to Derbyshire in 1969, having served in the Metropolitan and Dorset Police. He served mainly in Derby and Headquarters within the Force Training School. He also served as an Instructor at Dishforth Training School. He retired in 1988. Her funeral has been arranged for 10.45am on Monday 19th May 2025 at Macclesfield Crematorium, Prestbury Road, Macclesfield SK10 3BU followed at St Thomas Becket Church, Market Pl, Chapel-en-le-Frith SK23 0EN for a musical remembrance service and afterwards at Rems Café Bar, 29 Market St, Chapel-en-le-Frith SK23 0HP Sean Murphy (Secretary) It is with sadness that I have to inform you of the death on Thursday 1st May 2025, peacefully at his daughter‘s home, of ex PC 688 Michael John WATSON, 88 years. His next of kin, with whom he lived, is Mrs Claire Saunders. Michael joined the RAF but had to leave soon afterwards due to family illness and later joined Derbyshire Police serving in Chaddesden, Spondon, Matlock, Bakewell and Headquarters, retiring in 1991.
He represented the Police team in First Aid Training competitions, which were very popular at the time, against other Forces and the Coal Board. He was a member of the Derbyshire Branch of NARPO, serving on the committee in various roles and as Chairman. He together with his late wife, Ruth, will be remembered for organising the NARPO coach trips locally and abroad. Michael’s funeral has been arranged for 12.00 noon on Monday 2nd June 2025 at Amber Valley Memorial Park and Crematorium, Derby Road, Swanwick DE55 1BH and afterwards at the Dog Inn, Main Road, Pentrich DE5 3RE.
