Way above my pay grade, but a top boss for whom I had considerable respect, retaining a hands-on attitude to senior supervision, tempered with a generous humour.

Mr. Horobin was the only Divisional Commander with whom I went on foot patrol. Early 80s, Christmas Eve, Long Eaton, "Come on Sarge', let's go for walk". Amongst the spirit fuelled throng on the High Street one wag took a flying kick at a shop window. Together we wrestled him to the floor, 'cuffed him and marched him in to his fate. A most memorable gaffer.
