BUY BACK OF PENSIONS CONTRIBUTIONS
The following was sent in by one of our members and I thought it may be useful to some other members.
DEPUTY CEO Wakefield.
Please note the deadline date for backdating is 1st April, 2010.
This may not affect many people but it applies to me.
For men and women already drawing a DWP pension who have gaps in their contributions so that they do not receive the full state pension you can buy back contributions for any years between tax years 1996/7 and 2001/2 to increase your state pension.
The important concession is that any increase WILL BE BACK DATED TO THE DATE YOU FIRST STARTED DRAWING YOUR STATE PENSION. This means that any buy-back contributions may well cost you nothing as they will be offset by what the DWP owes you. (BBC Radio 4 Money Programme today)
However the concession ends on the 1st April, 2010 so you must claim within the next three weeks.
Write to the Pension Service, PO Box 16, Gateshead NE92 1BA, giving your name and address, date of birth, N.I No., which years you wish to buy back and the addresses you lived at during those years. For more info. go to www.gov.uk and go to pensions.
Time is short but a NARPO News Sheet would take too long to publish so we are doing it this way.
Yours sincerely,
Steve Edwards
Deputy Chief Executive Officer
